{scrappy} happy happy birthday

There was a change in plans here for this weekend, so I had some unexpected...but much appreciated!...time to stamp yesterday.  Hope you did too.

Last time, I shared my youngest son's birthday card from last year, and today I'm sharing the one he'll be given on his upcoming birthday this week.  Thought I'd post it now since he's not home and won't be able to sneak up behind me and see what I'm posting. ;)

My inspiration for this one came from the current sketch over at Taylored Expressions.  It was a really fun sketch to work with, and the card was made even easier for me when I found I could use some of my die cut scraps from a card that never came together.  {I seem to have a lot of trouble making cards when I'm not enamoured with the paper colors...Does that happen to you too?}  My son's still into the color red, so even though this one's quite a bit more on the yellow side than I'd intended {if it weren't for the great sketch, this card wouldn't have happened either...guess I'm just not a 'primary colors' kinda person *sigh*}, I hope he'll still like it.

Something I've seen a few times in blogland but haven't ever tried myself is using thin paper strips --scraps!-- to lace the buttons.  I like that you can have the perfect color for your project even if you don't have the right color of twine or floss.  I also had the *bright?* idea to use another scrap strip to break up the lower {red} panel by stitching over it; however, because I didn't tack it down beforehand, it shifted on me a bit. ;-/  Oops.  Oh, very soon-to-be 14-yr-old son probably won't even notice.  And this time, that will be a good thing.  ;)   I like the effect, so next time I'll try to remember to do it right.  Sometimes simple isn't always easy.  ;P

Oh, and I feel like I need to apologize for all the guy cards these days. They're much of what I've needed to make lately, so it's what I've been sharing.  But I will get back to making more *girly* cards very soon, so hang in there {Jeanne...since I think you and my mom and oldest daughter are the only ones visiting anymore -lol}.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thanks so much for the visit, and I hope you'll stop by again soon. Until then, many blessings to you!

I don't mind the guy cards at all, Christi! In fact, I'm happy to see them since they are notoriously harder for me to create. So, keep 'em coming if you like. Especially the ones that are awesome like this one. Your son will love it, I'll bet. Great tip on the button "thread" as well. Will have to remember that.

Have a great week!
