Shootin' the Curl

Yesterday my hubby sweet-talked me and the kids into going shooting with him (he's into shooting as much as I'm into stamping...and since I hadn't gone with him in about ten YEARS and he asks me to go quite often, I figured it was high time). It was a gorgeous day and we all had a blast (no pun intended -lol). My hubby and I were both excited to find that I hadn't lost my aim (he started calling me 'Annie' again -lol) -- I even have a few pics as proof! ;). The kids proved to be pretty good shots as well, which was surprising since they've hardly ever shot before (and they sure made their Daddy proud...what he wouldn't give to have one -- or all -- of us competing with him one day). We still have some work to do on reinforcing the safety rules, though I think that'll be a never-ending task regardless of the kids' age.

So...since I haven't found any time to stamp this weekend, I'm going to share with you a card I stamped on Friday (our first real day of "nowhere we have to be, nothing we have to do" since we finished school a couple weeks ago).

My soon-to-be 19-YO son has taken up surfing this past year, and since I don't {yet} have any surfboard stamps, this is what I came up with for a quick 'thinking of you' card for him. It took me far longer than it should have for such a small and simple card, and you'll notice I didn't get carried away with embellies (there are NONE - yes, I was having some anxiety over that...but after I reminded myself that this is the boy who throws my cards away soon after opening them, I felt better about it). I didn't think ribbon would be appropriate and I couldn't find my twine, so the best I could do was to add a second layer of waves and with the first set curled over to be 'crashing' (although my 10-YO son said it looked like a bunch of shark!). So, I guess they'll be whatever he interprets them to be, but I'm happy that they added a little dimension and interest to the card. ;)
I think everything is pretty obvious, so I won't bore you with the details except to say that the patterned paper is one I made using the various different word stamps from CTMH's Hang Ten set (I've had it for quite a long time and this was the first time it's seen ink...and I think I used every single stamp in the set with the exception of the two hibiscus flowers). But if you have any questions, just ask. ;)

Thanks so much for the visit, and I hope you'll stop by again soon. Until then, many blessings to you!

Supplies: Cardstock: Husk (ret.), White Daisy, Crystal Blue, Orange (CTMH); Stamps: Hang Ten, Say It In Style (CTMH); Inks: Desert Sand, Topiary, Orange, Sunflower, Crystal Blue (CTMH); Other: sponge, stipple brush (CTMH), pop dots, sandpaper

I think you did an outstanding job on this and he should really like it -- It is truly masculine and doesn't need any other embellishing at all. Very creative!

Oh my goodness, Christi! This is a FABULOUS card! The stamps you chose along with the waves and trees give it all the embellishment it needs! I'm so impressed! Great work.

Sounds like your family time was a humdinger...LOL

What an adorable card. Love all the dimension and textures.

I have been shooting twice.. Once off the back of a cruise ship. I surprised myself and actually hit a couple of the clay pigeons! lol (My DH says it was just because the captain was helping me and I had to impress him. He was kinda cute!)

Your card is amazing! I love how you made the BG paper and the waves are awesome! Sounds like the perfect card for your son.

I owe you an email and hope to get to it soon. Until then, take care and enjoy your 4th! Blessings~ Patti
